Cyclone Fengal : Landfall is expected to occur within a few hours in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram this afternoon, bringing with it heavy rainfall in the northern and delta regions of Tamil Nadu as well as Puducherry.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated in its most recent bulletin that Cyclone Fengal, also known as Feinjal, will move across the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry beaches this afternoon between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram near Puducherry with winds of 70 to 80 km/h with gusts up to 90 kmph.
Flights to and from Chennai have been impacted by the weather shift caused by the cyclone. Due to the bad weather, Air India flights that connect the city have been affected, while IndiGo Airlines has halted all operations at Chennai airport.
The Tamil Nadu districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore, as well as Puducherry, are expected to see heavy to extremely severe rainfall, according to the IMD. The weather and high tides are already changing in a number of coastal regions.

Authorities have warned fishermen not to go out to sea and to shift their boats and other equipment to higher land to avoid damage due to the strong winds and rough seas.
Dr. S Balachandran, the head of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai, told NDTV that the storm is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas and destroy telecommunications cables. He has cautioned that the effects will be particularly noticeable in coastal communities.
